Harland England

Harland England, 86, of Drexel Rd., Morganton, NC died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Grace Hospital, Morganton, NC following a brief illness. Born in Burke County, NC on June 6, 1922, he was the son of the late John Ivey England and Grace Mull England. He was a member of Morganton Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Harland was an avid gardener and beekeeper, loved traveling in his motor home and being in the outdoors. He was a retired building contractor and had built many homes and churches in this area. He and his brothers built and for many years operated the Quality Court at South Sterling and I-40.Mr. England is survived by his wife, Helen Livingston Carey England of the home; a son, Carlyle England of Boone, NC; daughters, Lynda England McCurdy and her husband, Robert of Waynesboro, PA, and Grace England Culpepper and her husband, Skip of Stone Mountain, GA; granddaughters, Melanie Lighthall and Alyssa Keehn; great grandchildren, Carson Lighthall and Rachel Keehn; a brother, Derry L. England of Morganton, NC; a sister, Mildred Pitrone of Warminister, PA; a step-son, Jack O. Carey and his wife, Carol of Apopka, FL; and step-grandchildren, Patricia Reese, Kevin Carey and Sean Carey.In addition to his parents, Harland was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine McCall England; brothers, John Jr. and Clyde England; sister, Rosebud England White and a step-son, Kevin Carey.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Morganton Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Barry Mahorney, Pastor Tim Sheridan and Mr. Ted Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at the church.
