Harold D. Smith

Harold D. Smith, 80, of Enola Road, Morganton, NC, died Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC following a brief illness. Born in Burke County, NC on September 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Christopher Columbus Smith and Winnie Lurinda Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alana Poteet Smith; five brothers, Sanford, Tellis, Cordell, Conley, and Bennett Smith; three infant brothers; and two sisters, Myrtle Smith and Mona Lee Smith. Harold was a US Army veteran and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed helping all of his neighbors and friends. He was a devoted sports fan, particularly of the Carolina Panthers Football team. He was a devoted father.Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Aleta Smith of Morganton; a brother, Carroll H. Smith and wife, Darlene, of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence of the brother, Carroll, 2433 Enola Road, Morganton.
