Harold Erskine Stitt, 77, of Morganton, formerly of Franklin, NC passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018. Born in Cabarrus County, NC on March 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Martin Misenheimer and the late Amanda Elizabeth Stitt Bost. Harold was a charter member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Sylva, NC. Mr. Stitt was a graduate of Emanuel Lutheran Junior College in Greensboro, NC; and he then earned his bachelor of science from Western Carolina University while raising 5 children and working full time. He was a supportive father and grandfather who was always there for his family. He taught adult education classes and was a tutor for Macon Program for Progress. Harold retired from Nantahala Power and Light with over 30 years of service.
Mr. Stitt is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruby McKinney Stitt of the home; step-father who raised him, Ray Bost; children, Kim Stitt, Robert Stitt, Damon Stitt, Dawn Stitt McDonald (Darren), and Anne Stitt; grandchildren, Avery Morris, Sassha Jalai Stitt, Robert Anthony Stitt, and Gavin McDonald; siblings, Katherine M. Glover, Linda Nimmons, and William Misenheimer; and number nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Sassha Aquonne Stitt and Trovell Stitt.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Minister Wesley Hendrix officiating.
