Harold Lloyd “Ham” Dean, 87, of Drexel, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
Born in Catawba County, NC on February 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Earl Arthur Dean and Minnie Bell Jenkins Dean.
Harold was a member of Drexel Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He retired from the town of Drexel after 63 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and passing out his tomatoes to everyone in Drexel. Harold also had a love for railroads and trains, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Harold is survived by his daughters, Janet Oliver and Kathleen Radford (Rick); son, Darrell Dean (Kim); grandchildren, Susan Shepherd, Lynn Griffin, Trey Dean, Ashley Goree, Kendall Radford, Kasey Radford, and Brenda Radford; great-grandchildren, Amber Griffin, Cameron Griffin, Natalie Shepherd, Oliver Taylor, Julian Radford, and Kristian Radford; great-great-grandson, Laz Griffin; brother, Paul Dean; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Beatrice Ward Dean; son, Raymond Dean; and daughter, Patricia Dean.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2023 at Drexel Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Lonnie Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Drexel Memorial Park.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Hey Harold, this is your aggravating little buddy Renae Dean that always give you Norfolk Southern toys and calendars. You was always so cool and groovy. All we ever done was cut up and aggravated each other. please tell Dot and Raymond I said hello and I miss them and love them

I grew up knowing “Ham” from Drexel Memorial Baptist Church in the late 60s and early 70s. He was a great man and a friend to everyone. He will be greatly missed.
