Harold Stamey

Harold Stamey, 86, of Morganton, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese, NC. Born in Burke County, NC on October 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Marvin Stamey and Jeanette Poteat Stamey. Harold was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He started Stamey’s Septic Tank Service which later became Stamey’s Ditching and Backfilling. In the early 70’s he was a co-owner of the Starlight Fish Camp with Fred Moses.Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy "Dot" Longshore Stamey of the home; a daughter, Susan S. Duncan and husband, Glenn, of Valdese; a brother, David Stamey; a sister, Catherine Hatley; and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins.In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by sisters, Ethel, Annie Lee, Eliza Mae, Magalene, and Earlene; and brothers, Andrew, Alfred, and Roy.The graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverends Butch Osborne and Neill Shaw officiating. The family will receive at the home on Monday afternoon from 1:00 until 5:00 pm and in the cemetery on Tuesday after the graveside. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1328 Bethel Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to North Morganton United Methodist Church, 990 Sanford Drive, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
