Harvey "Boyd" Fletcher, 98, of Morganton Long Term Care went home to be with the Lord and can hear now after being deaf all his life. Born in Watauga County on December 18, 1913, he was the son of the late Spencer Fletcher and Rosa Harmon Fletcher. Boyd retired from Henredon Furniture in 1979, after thirty years of service.He was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church. Boyd was affectionately called "the world’s oldest bus kid" because he rode the bus to come to church. Later he was involved in the church’s bus ministry each Saturday morning.Boyd is survived by his caregiver and friend, Dessie Fite of Morganton; a sister, Ruby Riddle and her husband, Rex, of Morganton; a brother, Albert Fletcher and his wife, Nell, of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Sparks Fletcher; brothers, Arthur, Eugene, Robert, Don, Howard, and Charlie Fletcher; and a sister, Faye Mineke.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Shining Light Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Castle officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
