Harvey Cunningham Barron

Harvey Cunningham Barron, 93, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 12, 2018. Born on April 20, 1925, he was a son of the late Jean Barron. Harvey was a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church.

Mr. Barron was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and a WWII veteran who served on the USS American Legion in the Philippine Islands. He was also retired from the North Carolina Forest Service. Harvey was a very giving man who served his community and church quietly without desiring recognition; these included Ruritan National and Prison Ministries.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Patricia McElrath Barron; sons, Evan Barron, Chris Barron (Sherri), and Ashley Barron; grandsons, Ethan Barron and Aaron Barron; sister, Carol Howell; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his mother, Harvey is preceded in death by his daughter, Dara Barron, two brothers and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rocky Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy.
