Hattie Duval Spaulding, 80 died Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Burke Palliative Care Center following a period of declining health. She was born in McDowell County on February 18, 1931 and was a daughter of the late Clyde Vernon Duval and Lillie Mae Biggerstaff Duval. Mrs. Spaulding was a loving mother, sister, and aunt, and she enjoyed cooking, reading, and working in her flower garden. She was a member of Denton?s Chapel United Methodist Church.She is survived by a son, Tom Lowery and wife, Ann, of Conover; sisters, Loree Wilson and husband, Andy, of Morganton and Pearl Ippolito and husband, Charlie, of Tampa, FL; daughter-in-law, Jacque Lowery of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spaulding was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Edward Spaulding; a son, Randy Lowery; brothers, Sam, Bob, Lawrence, and John Duval, and by a sister, Ruby Juskie.Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Denton?s Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverends Cynthia Arnold and John Duval officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Mrs. Spaulding cremains will be taken to Arlington National Cemetery to be placed beside those of her husband. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690 or to Denton?s Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 5358 Denton?s Chapel Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center is assisting with arrangements.
