Hazel Cannon Poarch

Hazel Cannon Poarch, 93, of Valdese, NC died Saturday, February 1, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on March 10, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Jess Pinkney Cannon and Henrietta Lambert Cannon. Hazel was a faithful member of Enon Baptist Church and a retired employee of Burke Yarns. She was a caregiver up until her 80’s and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, great great great grandmother and aunt.Hazel is survived by sons, Jerry Poarch and wife, Glenda of Hendersonville, James Poarch and wife, Ann of Valdese; grandchildren, Sherry Gilley, Angela Poarch, Maria Poarch, Greg Poarch, Brandon Poarch, Jaimee Gibson, Gina Kilpatrick, Leslie Poarch; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one great great great grandchild; and special nephew, Nyal Cannon.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph O. Poarch; sons, Ralph "Toby" Poarch, Bobby Poarch; grandchildren, Kevin Poarch, Phillip Poarch, Scott Poarch; great grandson, Adam Poarch, seven brothers; and two sisters.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Enon Baptist Church with Reverends Gary Garner and Ernie Richards officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
