Hazel Lockee Burns, 96, of Morganton, passed away on Wednesday, January 06, 2016. Born in Lincoln County, NC on May 8, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Luther Martin Hovis and Frances Reel Hovis.
Mrs. Burns was a loving grandmother to her family. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Salisbury.
Mrs. Burns is survived by grandchildren, Terri Story and John, Penne Lockee, and Jeff Burroughs; great-grandchildren, Amy Smith and Ray, Eric Harbison and Kimmy, Dillon and Dalton Burroughs, Brandon Peeler, and Hunter and Spencer Stutts; and an honorary grandson, Scott Harbison.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her first husband, Ossie Ola Lockee; her second husband, Virgil Thomas Burns; son, Ossie Ola Lockee, Jr.; grandson, Ossie Ola Lockee III; seven brothers; and three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
