Hazel Marie Driggers “Bug” Meeks, 83, of Morganton, NC, died Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Born in Florence, SC on December 8, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Vonder Driggers and Marie Barrineau Jones Driggers.

Bug was a member of Lenoir Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was known for loving babies and enjoyed helping her nieces with babysitting and light house-keeping. She enjoyed spending weekends visiting family members, Gospel music, any family gatherings, collecting pictures, phone calls, and going to church. Her joy was in the knowledge that she was a Christian and wanted to see Jesus.

Bug is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Meeks McCutcheon Kephart (Thomas) and Elizabeth Diana Spring (Chuck); three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Clarice Cotton, Billy Driggers (Sue), and Harry Driggers (Lucille); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bug was preceded in death by fifteen siblings, Mary Lee Jones Yarborough, Leo James Jones, Juanita “Nita” Jones Coker, Elise Driggers Morgan, Leslie Inez Driggers Revis, Kathleen J. Jones Miles Smith Yarborough, Charlie Robert Jones, Amanelle “Nell” Driggers Brush, Virginia “Sudie” D. Driggers Rogers, Elise Mae Jones Crawford, Katie Jones Dawkins, Willie Joe Jones, Reola Bernice “Lola” Jones Crawford, Willa Snow Jones Ward, and Lessie Dae “Polly” Driggers Williams.

Services will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Amorem Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Bug.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
