Helen Scott Smith

Helen Scott Smith, 95, of Morganton, NC died Monday, February 22, 2016. Born in Burke County, NC on February 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late James Alexander Scott and Clara Dysart Scott. Helen was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Morganton Garden Club, the Morganton Women’s Club, and was a Lioness.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Becky Williams and her husband, Donnie, of Jonas Ridge, NC; a sister, Nancy S. Oxford of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest E. “Smitty” Smith; brothers, Yates, Dysart, and John Scott; and sisters, Marie Scott, Katherine Hairfield, Clara Coffey, and Marguerite Fleming.
The cremation graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Glen Alpine Cemetery.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Dr. John Fowler and the Rev. Charlotte, Brendel officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home following the service.
