Henry Martin, Jr.

Henry Martin, Jr., 83, of Morganton went to be with our heavenly father on Thursday, October 25, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on September 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Henry Martin, Sr. and Hattie Hunter Martin.  Henry retired from Great Lakes Carbon and worked at Grace Ridge after his retirement. He was a member of Shiloh A.M.E. Church and was an active member of the Lake James Fire Department.

Henry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vivian Harrison Martin of the home; daughters, L’Tonya Martin (fiancé, Jarrett Palmer) and Sandra Gibbs, both of Morganton; grandchildren, LaMont Martin (wife, Michelle), LaToya Gibbs, and Jermaine Martin (fiancée, Ashley); great-grandchildren, Taylor, Haylee, Grant, Brayla, and Phoenix Martin; sisters, Louise Kanipe, Armelia Fleming, and Jessie Martin; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by brothers, Pedro Hunter and Sherman Martin; and sisters, Octavia Thomas, Beulah Copeland, Arleia Love, and Lucille Davis.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Shiloh A.M.E. Church.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Dr. Wayne Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
