Herbert Alexander "Hub" Franklin

Herbert Alexander "Hub" Franklin, 89, passed away into his eternal reward on Sunday, April 6, 2008 following a stroke. Born on June 7, 1918, he was the son of the late Ade and Lilly Orders Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Melva Franklin; and his siblings, Elwood Franklin and Azalee Franklin Davis. He was a 1936 graduate of Morganton High School and a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over fifty years. Hub had enjoyed a long retirement following a career of more than 40 years in the furniture industry. His career began at Drexel Furniture and culminated in over 30 years at Henredon Furniture Company.Hub is survived by three children, Robert A. Franklin of Greensboro, NC, Elizabeth Ann F. Ragan of Oak Ridge, TN, and Richard "Rick" Franklin of Morganton; seven grandchildren which include Amanda Ragan of Oak Ridge, Captain Patrick Ragan (USAF) of Glendale, AZ, Lindsay F. Berrang of Jacksonville, FL, and Kelly F. Greene of Asheville, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Savannah Berrang, Corban Berrang, and Callie Alexandra Berrang, all of Jacksonville.The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 407 S. Green Street, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
