Herbert F. Browning, 88 of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 3, 2017. He was born July 21, 1929 in Burke County, NC and was the son of the late William Smith Browning and Cozie Jeanette Stroup Browning. Herbert was a proud US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed passing out bulletins and greeting people at Grace Baptist. Herbert was a member of The American Legion Louisiana Post 208 and The AFLCIO Boilermakers Union.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by wife, Edna Diann Vasser Browning; brothers, William and Jack Browning; and sister, Katie Watts.
Herbert is survived by son, Herbert Ray Browning of Deweyville, TX; step-sons, Ronnie Vasser and wife, Wendy of Morganton, Chuck Morse and wife, Angie of Sulpher, LA; step-daughters, Angela McNeil all of Sulpher, LA, Peggy V. Johnson and husband, John of Dallas, TX; sisters, Nell Carpenter and husband, Gerald and Anna Belle Carswell and husband, Joe all of Morganton; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Bess officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Home Baptist Church Cemetery. With military honors provided by NC National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
