Herman Mooney

Herman Mooney, 74, of Morganton, NC passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017. He was born February 21, 1943 in Burke County, NC and was the son of the late John Mooney and Annie Duckworth Mooney. Herman worked at Carolina Shoe for 28 years and retired from the NC Department of Corrections. He had a longtime dirt track racing career. Herman also coached little league softball and baseball. He loved to hunt, fish, and watching his grandkids play ball. Herman had a special pet named “Patches”.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Ruby Orders and husband, Alva, Betty Hineman and husband, Stan; daughter, Becky Lane; and brother-in-law, Wayne Franklin.
Herman is survived by his significant other, Agnes Whisnant Collins; children, Keith Mooney and wife, Monica, Chris Mooney and wife Sarah, and Debbie Ashley and fiancé, Cameron Taylor all of Morganton; sisters, Carolyn Franklin, of Morganton, and Helen Genovesi and husband, Mario of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Lane Mooney and wife, Kelly, MacKenzie Mooney, Kelly Hernandez and husband, Alex, Mary Helen Mooney, Ryan Mooney, Savannah Mooney, and Katy Mooney; former wife, Christine Robinson; Agnes’s daughter, Shelly Cash and husband, Scott and their children, Kristi, Lynnsi Michael and Patrick, Michael Cash.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 5, 2017 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Reverend David Orders and Deacon Mike Lawson officiating.
