Hettie Crawley Santymire

Hettie Crawley Santymire, 89, died Thursday, Septeber 26, 2013. She was born October 2, 1923 in Burke County, NC to Ivey and Florence Mace Crawley. Hettie was raised by Ivey and Ora Glascow Crawley on Jamestown Road in Morganton. She resided in Morganton prior to moving to Hickory because of her health. She has also lived in California and West Virginia. Hettie attended Hickory Church of Christ and was a member of the Morganton Church of Christ. She enjoyed making and sending cards to her family, church family, and friends. She also made baby blankets for her grandchildren and babies of friends. Hettie was devoted to reading and studying her Bible each morning and took pride in her gardens.Hettie was preceded in death by her mother, Florence, who died when Hettie was a little girl; her parents, Ivey and Ora Crawley; her husband, Robert; brothers, Albert and Bill Crawley; sisters, Carrie Smith and Rachel Brittain; and an infant sister.She is survived by five children, Jackie Avey-King and her husband, Buddy, of Martinsburg, WV, Robert Santymire and his wife, Linda, of Martinsburg, Al Santymire and his wife, Elise, of San Francisco, CA, Earl Santymire and his wife, Beth, of Nashville, TN, and Lois Braswell and her husband, Rick, of Hickory; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Toney and Virginia Pritchard; and numerous nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Mr. Jeff Lovitt, Mr. Kevin Bibbee, and her son, Mr. Earl B. Santymire, officiating. Burial will follow in Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
