Hettie Puett Yelton, 92, of Morganton passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015. Born in Burke County, NC on February 19, 1923, she was the daughter of late Elam Avery Puett and Bessie Deal Puett. Along with her husband, Hettie lived in several places around the country. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was the last of ten children.
Hettie is survived by a special caregiver, Linda Epley; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special niece on her husband's side, Joann Yelton of Rutherfordton.
In addition to her parents, Hettie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Calvin Yelton; a daughter, Anita Yelton; brothers, Avery, Arthur, Edison, Nelson, and Edwin Puett; and sisters, Vira Johnson, Lula Ross, Ellie McCall, and her twin sister, Betty Ferguson.
The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Gantt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends in the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 5388 Mt. Olive Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
