Horace Heaton, 81, formerly of US Hwy 70 East, Morganton, NC died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at Britthaven of Morganton following a period of declining health. Born in Rutherford County, NC on August 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Zeb Heaton and Annie Mae Harris Heaton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Bailey, and two brothers, Charles Memory Heaton and Lee Roy Heaton. Horace worked the majority of his life in the furniture industry, having worked at Broyhill and Singer.
Mr. Heaton is survived by his nephews, Harold Bailey of Lenoir, NC, and Rodger Bailey and wife, Phyllis Sigmon Bailey, of Morganton; a brother-in-law, William M. Bailey and wife, Frances Johnson Bailey; and several great-nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Ruppe officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 until 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 109 Khristian Place, Bostic, NC 28018.
