Horace William Huffman

Horace William Huffman, 94, of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2007. He was born July 11, 1912 in Burke County to the late John "Mackie" Huffman and Katherine Keller Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Alberta Mae Berry Huffman; two brothers, Sam Huffman and Claude Huffman; and two sisters, Brintie Mullinax and Gladys Moore. Horace was devoted to his church and his family and prided himself, as the oldest son, on helping his siblings get their start in life. He was an active member of Enon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and was active in youth groups. Horace worked for many years at Huffman Hosiery, and then retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center after 20 years as a security guard.He is survived by his current wife and the joy of his life, Esther "Pearl" Smith Huffman; son and daughter-in-law, Claude and Delores Huffman; grandson, Claude "Douglas" Huffman; and step-grandson, Jeremy Huff, all of Morganton; brothers, Gene Huffman of Morganton and Paul Huffman of Hickory, NC; sisters, Ellen Eichenbrenner of Charlotte, NC, Lottie Swink of Morganton, and Essie King of Lawndale, NC; a brother-in-law, Conley Moore of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Garner and Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, May 25 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
