Howard Wayne Thomas was born on April 7, 1951 to the late Tommy Long and Laura Edmonson Thomas. He was the fourth child of seven. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tom M. and Mary Ann Owens Thomas and his maternal grandmother, Lula Edmonson. He was also preceded in death by his big brother, Eugene Thomas. He transitioned from this life to his eternal home on Monday, January 17, 2022 while at Morganton Long Term Care.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Diann Thomas Tate and husband, Oscar Tate; Belinda Vinson and her husband, Rev. Walter Vinson both from Morganton, NC; brothers, Stephen Thomas I and wife, Susan Thomas from Loris, SC; Frank A. Thomas and his wife, Sandra Thomas from Claremont, NC and Phillip J. Thomas and his wife Vonda Thomas of Morganton, NC; sister-in-law, Frances Johnson Thomas Parker along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He graduated from Morganton High School in 1969. He was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church, He retired on disability as an employee of the City of Morganton. Because of his many illnesses he had to be cared for by McAlpine Adult Care for over twenty years and for the last two years by Morganton Long Term Care.
A private service will be held for the immediate family at Sossoman Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest next to his mother and grandmother at Olive Hill Cemetery in Morganton, NC. Mask are required for everyone.
