Hughes Harding Crabtree

Hughes Harding Crabtree, 88, of Amherst Rd. died Wednesday, june 10, 2009, at Valdese General Hospital. He was born in Smyth County, VA on April 16, 1921 and was the son of James Perry Crabtree and Emma Jefferson Crabtree. Mr. Crabtree was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.Surviving are his sons and their wives, David and Diane Crabtree and Ken and Sherrie Crabtree; his daughter, Dona Wilkie, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Dana Withrow, Elizabeth Self, Joseph Jaynes, Peter Jaynes, David Jaynes, and Mary Cardin.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, june 15, 2009, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Francis King officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by Valdese American Legion Post 234. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the parish hall.
