Ida Catherine Hennessee King, 94, of Morganton, NC, and a former Morris Plains, NJ resident, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Born in Burke County, NC on May 24, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Millard Tate Hennessee and Ethna LaMere Kincaid Hennessee. She received her LPN certificate from Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ and her Registered Nurse degree from Morris Community College, Morris Plains, NJ. During her nursing career, Ida worked at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plains and at St. Francis Community Hospital in Escanaba, MI.
Mrs. King is survived by her son, Leonard J. Ognibene of Livingston, TN; a daughter, Rose Marie Ognibene Boyd of Metuchen, NJ; grandsons, Michael Joseph Ognibene, Anthony Peter Ognibene, and Thomas Sloan Boyd, III; brothers, Ervin Hennessee and his wife, Pat, and Carl Hennessee and his wife, Juli, all of Morganton; a sister, Lena H. Cooper of Morganton.
In addition to her parents, Ida was preceded in death by the father of her children, Joseph Peter Ognibene; and siblings, Millard Tate Hennessee, Jr., Fred Lee Hennessee, Elsie Houser, and Evelyn Sloan Hennessee.
The family will receive from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. David Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
