Inez Powell Hemphill

Inez Powell Hemphill, 94, of Morganton died Thursday, February 22, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on May 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Ira Elmer Powell and Mary Ellen Phillips Powell.  Inez was a member of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.  She loved to cook and was well known for her fried apple pies and ham biscuits.

Inez is survived by her son, Richard Dix Hemphill and wife, Shirley, of Morganton; grandchildren, Richard Adam Throneburg and wife, Stephanie, Djuna Ackers, and LeDonna Good and husband, Jeff; a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Throneburg; and a number of special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Guy Hemphill; daughter, Dolores Ann “Lois” Throneburg; sisters, Gladys Padgett, Annie Kelly, Eva Powell, Dorothy Mayfield, and Bennie Bailey; and brothers, Leslie, Eugene, Vernon, and Edgar Powell.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Chris Dale officiating.  Burial will follow at Bridgewater Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
