Irene H. Whisenant, 92, of Morganton joined her Heavenly family on Friday, September 15, 2017. Born in Henderson County, NC on February 14, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. Haskins and Bessie Halyburton Haskins. Irene was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church where she assisted with the nursery. She retired from Alba Waldensian.
Mrs. Whisenant is survived by her daughters, Janice Barrier and husband, Jack, and Susan Griffin and husband, David, all of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward McCoy Whisenant, and all of her brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11am, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 11am in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
