Iris "Ikie" Louise Johnson Harris, 75, of East Wade Ave., Morganton, NC died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Britthaven of Morganton. Born in Minden, NY on October 31, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Melvin Johnson and Emma Louise Decker Johnson. Ikie was a member of Walker Road Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the Burke County Rescue Squad.
Ikie is survived by her adopted family, Marylin and Tommy Waters, Nicholas "Bubba" Evitt and Sarah Michaela "Baby" Evitt; and special caregivers and friends, Yulita and Sonny Hensley, Calvin and Shirley Evitt, and Rhonda and Chris Peterson.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vernon Harris.The memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 2, 2010 at Walker Road Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Ware officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Walker Road Baptist Church, 100 Walker Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
