Iva Jane Mabe, 87, of Morganton, NC died Saturday, March 7, 2015. Born September 2, 1927 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Nathaniel Mabe and Allie Setzer Mabe. Iva was a Christian and a strong prayer warrior. In 2014 she was published in Picture Shows and Five Cent Moon Pies: A Living History of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains and Foothills, a collection of stories and sayings. A caring and loving person, Iva possessed a joyful spirit, a keen wit, and the ability to share words of encouragement with other people. Miss Mabe appreciated the simple things in life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed observing God’s creation.
She is survived by a sister, Nina Mabe LaFevers of Morganton; nieces and nephews, Steve Taylor of Arnold, CA, Norman Perkins of Hanford, CA, Janeé Ramsey of Morganton; Rev. Ronnie LaFevers of Fayetteville, NC, Randy Perkins of Granite Falls, NC, and Audrey Ryan of Winston-Salem, NC; and twelve great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Doris Stover, Melvyn Mabe, Harless Mabe, and Margaret Perkins Powell.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2015 at Forest Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie LaFevers officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
