Iva P. Smith Wiseman

Iva P. Smith Wiseman, 90, of Britthaven of Morganton, and formerly of Morganton Long Term Care, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 16, 2009 at the nursing home. She was born March 2, 1918 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late William Fred Powell and Ollie Clontz Powell. Iva was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She had worked at several textile mills in Morganton, but her foremost job was caring for her family and her home.Iva is survived by sons, Thomas Smith and wife, Rachel, of Morganton, and Andy Smith and wife, Bea, of South Port, FL; daughters, Ollie Martin of Statesville, NC, and Nancy Leonard and husband, Mike, of Morganton; a sister, Betty Walker of Morganton; seven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Edward R. Smith and Fredrick Wiseman; a son, Gilbert Edward Smith; four grandchildren; brothers, Clyde, Clarence, and Sam; and sisters, Eula, Beulah, Margaret, and Ruth.Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, February 19, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Mr. Greg Leonard officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour before the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Thomas Smith on Mountain View Lane in Morganton.
