Jack Mull Hogan died peacefully in his sleep, on Saturday, August 10, 2019, five days shy of his 89th birthday, following a period of declining health. He was born on August 15, 1930 in Burke County, to the late Ernest (Bud) and Louise Mull Hogan. Jack served four years in the US Air Force and worked 25 years for the US Post Office, retiring due to health reasons. He especially enjoyed working in his flowers and garden, and was an avid Duke fan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Kent Hogan, Bob Hogan (Peggy) and sister, Billie Cox (Jr.).
He was married for 68 years to the love of his life, Edna Jean Hallyburton Hogan. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by daughters, Barbara Puett (Randy), Elaine Pitts (Neil); grandchildren, David Smith (Candice), Tonya Williams (Joe), Neil Pitts, Jr. (Amanda Justice) and Josh Carswell; great-grandchildren, Harrison and Makenna Williams.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The service will be at 3:00pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Military honors provided by the US Air Force and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family would like to give their appreciation to the wonderful staff at Grace Hospital, especially Drs. Enslow and Wang, for the excellent care they gave Jack in his final days.
