Jackie Hensley Abernathy, 65 passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Amorem after a short period of declining health. Born on August 22, 1959, she was the daughter of Jack C. Hensley and the late Margie Mae Hildebran Hensley.
Jackie attended Summitt Community Church and formerly attended Mt. Home Baptist Church. Jackie worked at Western Carolina Center for 19 years. She later went to work for Morganton Eye Physicians for 27 years. Jackie devoted her life to her grandchildren. She loved to travel to Florida and spend time with friends and family.
Jackie is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Abernathy (Edward Suh), Ashley Auldredge (Jeremy); grandchildren, Brooke Lawrence, Jordan Auldredge, Landon Auldredge, Emma Suh, Annalise Suh; stepsister, Cindy Stroupe, Beverly Stroupe; and her K-9 companion, Henry.
In addition to her mother, Jackie is preceded in death by her sister, Debra Hensley Benton; niece, Jessica Benton; stepmother, Beatrice “Bea” Hensley.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The funeral will follow in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home at 6:00 p.m., with the Rev. Rocky Hartman officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I am so very sorry your family’s loss. I did not know Jackie but i do know her daughter, Ashley. Ashley is a wonderful person who cares for every client that she serves. Jackie must have been a wonderful mother as her daughter’s great personality is testament to Jackie’s influence as a mother. Again I am so sorry for your loss Ashley and the family. Jackie was taken from you too soon. Take comfort in knowing that you will see her again snd knowing that she is in God’s arms now.
It still does not seem real that you are gone Jackie. I loved hearing your stories and laughing til I hurt. Your sense of humor was one of a kind. You will truly be missed. Prayers for your family, Henry and for our MEPPA family. Lynn R🙏🏻🩷
I’ve been trying to think of words to say to someone I grew up with. A lifelong friend even though we haven’t seen each other in a long time it’s so hard to say goodbye. We grew up side by side and we’re with each other every single day. We built forts and playhouses in the woods, rode bikes and mini bikes, walked to and from school each day. I can’t explain how I felt when I heard you had left this earth. You were the best. You had a heart as big as the moon. To your daughters and grandchildren and Jack, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I know you’re in a better place and with Margie and Deb now. You will be missed here on earth. Love you my sister.
To the family I am so sorry for your loss. Jackie was one of 2 of my best friends all through Mull and Freedom High School. Jackie, Judy and myself were always known as the 3 J's. She was a beautiful lady and friend and will always be remembered.
prayers Jackie and I met in 3rd grade. Loved spending the nights at Mom Maw Hensleys's. She was special.
