Jackie "Jack" Pope

Jackie "Jack" Pope, 66, of Morganton, NC passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his residence with his family at his side. Born in Caldwell County, NC on August 14, 1946, he was the son of the late Andy Pope and Violet "Susie" Pope Kirby. Jack was raised in the Baptist Faith. He drove a tractor trailer for Caldwell Freightliner and Cellu. He then worked as a courier for the Morganton News Herald and the Hickory Daily Record for over eleven years. Jack was one of the First E.M.T.s with the Burke County E.M.S. and was an active member of the Burke County Rescue Squad for over 30 years.He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeanette Barrier Pope of the home; children, April Pope of Mroganton, Kim Hamby and her husband, Richard, of Banner Elk, NC, and Jackie Pope, II and his wife, Koren, of Morganton; grandchildren, Michael Thomas, Monica Thomas, and Kaylin Pope; brothers, Kenneth Pope and wife, Christine, of Lenoir, NC and Keith Pope and his wife, Nyoka, of Morganton; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Judy Gilbert and her husband, Gary, of Albemarle, NC.In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a brother, Toney Pope; and a sister, Scottie Coffey.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Tito Madrazo officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. The graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2013 at Ginger Cake Cemetery in Jonas Ridge, NC.
