Jada Lawing Benfield

Jada Lawing Benfield, 36, of Morganton, NC died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on September 1, 1977, she was the daughter of the Rev. Ed Lawing and Jane Campbell Lawing of Morganton. Jada was a member of Laurel Haven Baptist Church and attended Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Granite Falls. She worked at the NC tag office and then for the Department of Social Services.In addition to her parents, Jada is survived by her daughter, Katie Benfield of the home; a sister, Sascha Prebor and her husband, Weyland; a niece, Lily Prebor; and her maternal grandmother, Ruth "Pretty Eyes" Campbell.A celebration of Jada’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Morganton with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 305 West Union Street, Morganton, NC 28655.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
