James A. Kanipe, 74, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Valdese Hospital. Born in Burke County, NC on March 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Kanipe and Geneva Dellinger Kanipe. James was a member of Zion Baptist Church and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He owned and operated Morganton Chair, Inc. for over 30 years.A loving and devoted husband and father, James is survived by his wife, Mildred Conley Kanipe of the home; a son, Michael Kanipe and his wife, Susan, of Morganton; a daughter, Kelli Armentrout and her husband, Lewis, of Morganton; grandchildren, J.R. Kanipe and his wife, Misty, Amber Kanipe, Emily Armentrout, and Sarah Armentrout; and three great-grandchildren, Destiny Kanipe, J.T. Kanipe, and Jenna Kanipe.In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Valentine.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Burke Memorial Park with the Reverends Keith Rose and Steve Parker officiating. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. At other times, the family will be at the home of Michael and Susan Kanipe, 2065 Harmon St. in Morganton from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
