James "Bill" Huffman

James "Bill" Huffman, 89, of Morganton, NC passed away Monday, August 12, 2013. Born in Wilkes County, NC on July 24, 1924, he was the son of the late James Granville Huffman and Beatrice Grace Austin Huffman. Bill was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He served at Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. He worked with his father in the saw mill, worked at Great Lakes Carbon, worked at Inmont, and later worked as a building contractor.Bill is survived by his son, Michael Huffman and his wife, Rita, of Clayton, NC; a daughter, Susie Maples of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Amy Huffman Wigington and her husband, Doug, James Adam Huffman, and Michelle Newton and her husband, Mark; great-grandchildren, Michael Wigington, Madison McKenzie, and Megan Newton; and a sister, Betty Appleton of Washington, DC.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, Dolly Miller and Sadie Coffey, and a brother, Jack Huffman.The family will hold a private military service in November.
