James "Bud" Toner, 72 of Morganton, NC died Monday, February 27, 2012 at his residence. Born May 20, 1939 in Detroit, MI, he was a son of the late Royce Brock Toner and Esther Elise Lamp Toner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William Toner and a sister, Jean Raddatz.Mr. Toner was the founder of James Tool Machine & Engineering. He had many hobbies and diverse interests; however, he most of all loved helping people. He was a Mason for over fifty years and was a lifelong Lutheran.Surviving are his wife of over forty years, Nelda Enie Toner of the home; children, Lisa Toner King and her husband, Timothy, Jeffrey Brock Toner and his wife, Laura, Cynthia Toner Lilly, and James C. Toner, Jr. and his wife, Iris all of Morganton; grandchildren, Meghan, Zachary, Carson, and Grayson King, Brock and Ally Toner, Tori Feala, Kristina Fleishman and her husband, John, Betsy Lilly, Trent Toner and his wife, Sheri, and Chelsey Toner; great-grandchildren, Jameson and Finley Toner; and a sister, Diane Cook and her husband, Michael of Dearborn Heights, MI.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Carolyn Remaklus officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors by The N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
