James Carlton Miller

James Carlton Miller, 80 of Conover, NC died Monday, July 19, 2010 at Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, NC following a brief battle with cancer. Born October 23, 1929 in Ashe County, NC, he was a son of the late Carl and Hala Woodie Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, R. C. Miller; a sister, Bobbie Miller Francis; his stepmother, LaRena Shatley Miller; a sister-in-law, Zelma Miller; and extended family at heart, Mary Whisnant Chester, Mary Ellen Chester Fox and Roy Chester.Surviving are his sisters, Sue Miller Phillips and her husband, Gary; Evone Miller Graybeal, and Donna Miller Reeves; a brother-in-law, Herbert Francis. Also surviving are his family at heart, Ervin Chester, R. L Chester and his wife, Helen, Jean Chester Calvin and her husband, Luther, Iris Chester Fox and her husband, Gene, Lillie Chester Bennett, and Ruby Royal Chester.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. James Smith Sharpe officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service. Entombment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. Following the entombment, family and friends will gather at the home of Iris Chester Fox and husband, Eugene, 201 Mull Lane, off of Hwy. 181, Morganton. The family requests that no flowers be sent but would prefer that memorial gifts may be made to the Western Piedmont Humane Society, P. O. Box 63, Hickory, NC 28603.
