Committal
James Douglas “Doug” Henry, 65, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 18, 2019. He’s always been happy, and now he is happy, whole, and experiencing the love of his Savior like never before. He’s been longing to see Him for quite some time, and in Doug’s own words, he’s already given Jesus a hug and a kiss.
Born in Burke County, NC on February 20, 1954, Doug was the son of the late James Junior Henry and Betty Jean Powell Henry.
He is survived by his brothers, Steve Henry (Becky) and Jimmy Henry, both of Morganton; sister, Sandy Henry Fletcher of Morganton; nieces, Jessica Schweikert, Chesnee Baldwin, and Lorinda Baldwin; nephew, Jeremy Henry; and great-nieces, Lily McCann, Alli Henry, and Mozi Jackson.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Burkemont Baptist Church. A video presentation of Doug’s life will be shown from 3:30 to 4 p.m. in the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Steve Henry, 103 Perpons Street, Morganton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Black Mountain Center Foundation, 932 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
