James “Harry” Jackson gained his wings and went to his Heavenly home on Monday, January 11, 2021.   Most honorably known as “Daddy” and “Pawpaw,” Harry is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 60 years, Clara “Jean” Patton Jackson; son, Robin Allan Jackson and wife, Connie; and granddaughters, Anna and Callie.  Harry and Jean attended North Cross Church in Morganton.

Harry was passionate about playing football in high school and was an accomplished athlete for the Valdese Tigers.  Years later after traveling the country as a truck driver, he built, owned and operated many of the car washes in Morganton and Valdese along with A to Z storage.

He was enthusiastic about old cars, especially that of his 1940 Ford Coupe.  You could always expect a fresh cup of coffee and a trip to the garage when visiting Harry and Jean.

Harry took pride in everything he did, always looked for an opportunity, and was never afraid to take a risk.  He loved his family more than he loved himself.

His two granddaughters were blessed to have a coveted relationship with their Pawpaw.  He made every dream they had come true and was always one phone call away.

In lieu of flowers we are asking for any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  A graveside service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church on Dysartsville Road, Friday, January 15th at 2:00.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
