James "Herb" Suttlemyre

James "Herb" Suttlemyre, 79, of Starmount Circle, Morganton, died May 25, 2010 after a period of decling health. Herb was born January 12, 1931 in McDowell County to the late Charles Greer Suttlemyre and Ruth Whitley Suttlemyre. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and had retired from the US Postal Service. Herb coached several Pee Wee football and basketball teams and had also refereed high school football and basketball.Herb is survived by his wife, Martha McClellan Suttlemyre; sons, Jay Suttlemyre and Eric Suttlemyre both of Morganton; grandchildren, Jadee Suttlemyre of Cary and Erika and Jamie Suttlemyre of Morganton; and a brother, Greer Suttlemyre of Morganton.A celebration of Herb’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neal Brantley, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
