James “Jim” Brown, 91, of Morganton, NC passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Born in Ontario, Canada on July 18, 1924, he was the son of the late James Brown and Hazel Dent Brown. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Jim was a WWII veteran of the Canadian Army. He attended UCLA, graduated from USC, and worked for National Cash Register. Mr. Brown moved to Morganton 13 years ago to be with his daughter and her family.
Jim is survived by his children, Kathryn Strawn of Virginia and Laura Brown Scoggins and her husband, Dr. Scott Scoggins, of Morganton; grandchildren, Christopher, Evan, Calli, Aiden, Bridger, and Skye; and a sister, Jane Johnson of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Irene Doucette Brown; and brothers, Joe and Jack Brown.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 6 pm., Friday, June 24, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The celebration of Jim’s life will follow at 6 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Charlotte Brendel officiating.
