James “Jim” Huland Boone, 67, of Farmland Acres, Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 27, 2019. Born on July 21, 1952 in Burnsville, NC, he was the son of the late Ralph Tilman Boone and Mary Cannon Boone. Jim was a 1972 graduate of Salem High School and retired from the Department of Corrections with 30 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sondra Boone Deal and Theresa Boone Harvey; and brothers-in-law, Woodrow “Bud” Harvey.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Boone of the home; son, Richard Burleson and wife, Deborah, of New Mexico; grandchildren, Parker and Carter; sisters, Juanita Bradford and husband, Allen, of Freeport, FL and Sheila Wells and husband, Earl, of Union Mills, NC; brother, R. T. Boone and wife, Denise, of Morganton; nieces, Denise Sisk and Kellie Burleson; nephew, Greg Bradford; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Marie Ray of Morganton.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday at Drexel First Baptist Church. A celebration of Jim’s life will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the church with Revs. Michael Duncan, Junior Boone, and Tito Madrazo officiating.
