James "Jim" Phillip Mauney, Jr.

James “Jim” Phillip Mauney, Jr. passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Jim was born in Morganton, NC on December 14, 1953 and was the son of Mona and Phillip Mauney.
James attended Morganton High School and Western Piedmont Community College. James worked at Inter-Continental in Newton-Conover for 37 years as a supervisor. He spent many years as a tri-athlete and enjoyed long distance biking and running in recent years.
James is preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Mauney Peterson.
James is survived by his wife, Kimberly Stamey Mauney of Morganton; mother, Mona Mauney of Hickory; daughter Heather Mauney and husband, Bobby Coon of Sackets Harbor, NY; son, Phillip Mauney and wife Jenny of Morganton; sisters, Lisa Cuthbertson and husband, Randy of Jacksonville, FL and Trish Maney and husband, Jerry of Hickory; grandchildren, Porter Engle, Davis Engle, Noah Coon, and Brayden Mauney; and nephew, Michael Davis.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Kimberly B. Baker officiating.
