James “Jimmy” Harris, 76, of Valdese passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Born in Logan County, WV on July 21, 1941, he was the son of the late Rad Harris and Nannie Hale Harris. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Jimmy had attended Bethel United Methodist Church. He worked as a mechanic at A. P. Causby and retired from Case Farms. He enjoyed watching westerns on television, fishing, and camping. He was an all-around good guy.
Jimmy is survived by his step-sons, Bill “Squeak” Pinson and wife, Janice, of Morganton; Jerry Abee and wife, Lori, of Havelock, NC, and Keith Abee and wife, Cheryl, of Valdese; step-daughter, Hannah Crouch and husband, Mike, of Granite Falls, NC; 12 step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Grover Harris, of Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertie Mae Harris; second wife, Betty Jo Abee Clark Harris; brother, Charles Harris; sister, Barbara McCoy; step-daughter, Lisa McCall; step-son, Bobby Pinson; and 2 step-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 :30 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Dysartsville Road. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
