James Lawrence "Jim" Orders

James Lawrence "Jim" Orders died Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

He was born on March 31, 1945 in Morganton, NC, the son of the late Roy Lawrence Orders and Sarah Ruth Lail Orders. He was a member of Lail Road Evangelical Methodist Church in Glen Alpine, NC.

Jim graduated from Glen Alpine High School and worked as a machine mechanic at Shadowline, Inc. for 18 years. In 1984, Jimmy bought Lake James Family Campground and was co-owner and operator with his father-in-law and mother-in-law. In 2006, because of health reasons, it became necessary for him to sell his portion of the campground.Jim was an avid fisherman; a dedicated fan of NASCAR; loved restoring and collecting vintage cars; and he also enjoyed hunting, gardening and traveling.He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elaine Edney Orders; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Beth Orders of Marion, NC; father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.G. and Hilda T. Edney, Nebo, NC; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Leslie) Edney of Hudson, NC and Dean (Beth) Edney of Morganton, NC; nieces, Melissa Edney of Atlanta, GA and Chastity (Jim) Stapleton of Morganton, NC; nephews, Grayson Edney and Lucas Edney, both of Morganton, NC; step-mother, Doris White Orders of Morganton, NC; and his faithful canine companion, Buddy.He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Herbert and Minnie Berry Lail; and his paternal grandparents, Marvin and Beulah Wise Orders.A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, May 30, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Bishop Alan Austin, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm prior to the service. Dedicatory services will be held immediately following the service at Glen Alpine Cemetery with Brother Alex Cobb officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to SouthMountain Children's Home, 7330 Myrtle Drive, Nebo, NC 28761.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
