James Lee "Jim" Hunt

James Lee "Jim" Hunt, 85, of Benfield’s Landing, Lake James in Nebo, NC, died Monday, February 10, 2014. Born in Cleveland County, NC on October 7, 1928, he was the son of the late John Lee Hunt and Kate Harrill Hunt. Jim was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Along with his wife, Betty, he was an avid walleye fisherman at both Lake James and Lake Fontana, NC. This was their favorite hobby throughout the years. They have operated Benfield’s Landing and Marina at Lake James since 1973, creating many years of good memories there for family and friends. Jim continued to have a very active and happy lifestyle despite many major health issues. He was loved by many and will be missed.Jim is survived by his wife, Betty Grayson Hunt of the home; sons, Scott Hunt and his wife, Sherry, of Lake James, Donnie Hunt of Lake James, and Steve Hunt and his wife, Gilda, of Polkville, NC; grandchildren, Amy Hunt Miller and her husband, Cameron, Jamie Hunt, Jennifer Street and her husband, Kevin, Cory Hunt, Kayla Hunt, Patty Tripp, and Randy Spangler and his wife, Jennie; great-grandchildren, Ethan Miller, Evan Miller, Trevor Webb, Ashely Webb, Toby Street, and Andrew Bruno; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Joe Hunt and his wife, Joan, of Murfreesboro, TN; a sister, Betty Blackwelder and her husband, Dick, of Cherryville, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hunt; sisters, Jane Hobbs and Frances Hunt; and his daughter-in-law, Brenda Hunt.The memorial service will be held at 4pm, Sunday, February 16, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas St. John officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4pm prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
