James Leonard Chapman

James Leonard Chapman, 78, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He was born on May 13, 1940 in Burke County to the late Grayson and Mattie Goins Chapman. Mr. Chapman was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and lived his life for the love of his children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae Hudson Chapman; brother, Ulysses Chapman; step-dad, Buck Chapman; sons-in-law, Jeffrey Brackett and Julius Chapman.

Mr. Chapman is survived by his daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Pendley and husband, Benny, of Morganton, Linda Simmons and husband, Corbin, of Connelly Springs, Regina “Jennie” Hall and husband, Brad, of Rutherford College, and Mona Lisa Brackett of Valdese; grandchildren, Tracy and Leonard Chapman, James Simmons, Bobbie Sigmon and Lisa Hollar; brother, Junior Goins of Morganton; sisters, Debbie Woods of Morganton, Shoney Moses of Casar, Letitia Brittain of Hildebran and Dorothy Anderson of Morganton; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 pm, Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The service will be at 2:00pm, Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Douglas Price and Jason Hoyle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence on Sugar Loaf Road.
