James Leonard Duckworth

James Leonard Duckworth, 84, of Morganton, NC went Home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. He was born on January 24, 1938 in Burke County to the late James Hardy Duckworth and Gertie Norman Duckworth. He was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church. Leonard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a very simple man who loved being at home. He was a veteran of the US Army serving at Fort Benning, GA from 1961-1963. He retired from Great Lakes Carbon. Leonard enjoyed farming, hunting and watching Atlanta Braves baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Lynn; sisters, Katherine Head, Anne Wright and Barbara Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances Rogers Duckworth; sons, Greg Duckworth (Missy) and Eric Duckworth (Lamina); sister, Mary Garrison (Ned); brother-in-law, Vernon Roberts; grandchildren, Megan Binder (Eric), Gavin Duckworth (Lauren), Makayla Duckworth and Erika Moretz (Logan); great-grandchildren, Asher Binder, Lyla Binder, Aiden Lawrence, Avery Duckworth, Maddy Duckworth, Coy Moretz and Briggs Moretz; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 3:00pm in the church with the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Honors provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veteran Honor Guard.
