James Masencup

Mr. James Lester Masencup, 73, of Morganton passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018.  James was born November 2, 1944 in Picqua, Ohio to the late Kenyon and Beulah Masencup.

Mr. Masencup was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam.  He was formerly employed at Great Lakes Carbon for thirty-six years.  James was a wonderful person who loved his wife, kids, grandkids, and many friends.  He will be forever missed.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Willie Mae Hildebran Masencup; two sons, Douglas Masencup (Beverly) and Brian Masencup (Melissa); and three grandkids, Kristen Masencup, Logan Masencup, and Wyatt Masencup.  Also surviving are three sisters, Sarah Smith, Linda Lawrence, and Gayle Van Sickle; two brothers, Melvin and Jerry Durham; and one aunt and uncle, Jackie and Kenneth Ollis.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Masencup was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Ella Benfield.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
