James McCoy "Doodie" Robinson

Rev. James McCoy "Doodie" Robinson, 84, of Valdese, NC went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Autumn Care. Born May 16, 1927 in Burke County, he was a son of the late Jeff L. Robinson and Flossie Mae Coffey Robinson. McCoy served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Valdese. Rev. Robinson served as minister of the First Baptist Church in Rutherford College, and then at Asheville Street Baptist Church for 32 years. He was also a supply pastor for several local Baptist churches. Rev. Robinson was a member of the Catawba Valley Baptist Association where he served as the moderator.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Darese Buff Robinson of the home; sons, Alan Robinson and wife, Rhonda of Morganton, and Richard "Rick" Robinson and wife, Dereama of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, Jamie Robinson, Tiffany Pearson, Heidi Bristol, Jason Robinson and Jeremy Robinson; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Tabitha, Benjamin, and Malachi Pearson, Greysen Bristol, Austin, Luke, and Kendall Robinson; brothers, Earsel, Paul, Jack, Bueford, and R. H. Robinson; sisters, Reba Pittman and Lydia Hoyle; and special friends, Homer and Margaret Arnett.In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Lowman; and a brother, Bobby Robinson.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Valdese with the Reverends Noel Schoonmaker and Timothy Horldt officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the N.C. Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour before the funeral service.
