James “Monroe” Clark, 81, of Morganton passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 after an extended illness. Born in Caldwell County, NC on October 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Matthew Clark and Della Coffey Clark. Monroe was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was an outstanding employee and truck driver for Lenoir Mirror Company for 50 years and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He enjoyed doing anything outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping.
A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Monroe is survived by his wife, Nancy Ruth Garrison Clark of the home; children, Kim Clark Martin (Tom) and Rodney Clark; grandchildren, Clarke Martin, Katlyn Clark, and Caroline Martin; sisters, Barbara Greene (David) and Bonnie Coleman (Ronald); brother, Johnny Clark (Debbie); a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family; his Daniel Boone Campground family; his Ridge Runner Hunting Club family; and his beloved poodle, Bailey.
In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by brothers, Max Herman Clark and Mason Clark.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Salem United Methodist Church with Revs. Tom Brooks and Norm Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
